Module 3

Materials Generator

https://classflow.com/

This google app allows teachers to easily make fun learning activities such as crosswords, fill in the blank, word search, and other learning formats. As a teacher, I can either print off the activity for my students or connect them to my file and monitor their progress online.
The website educationworld has a large number of templates that I can use as a teacher such as certificates and bathroom passes. “Certificates congratulate students for accomplishments, and the students can take them home and share them with parents and friends" (Roblyer, 2016, 148). When I customize things in my classroom such as rewards I can raise the working morale in my classroom.

Testing and Grading Tools

Orangeslice: Teacher Rubric is a google add on for google docs that help teachers create a grading rubric for the assignments. "The popularity of rubrics has grown to such an extent that several internet sites offer free rubric generators" (Roblyer, 2016, 156). Rubric Generators are very useful when deciding on which criteria to grade assignments with.

This is a website that gives teachers a template to create tests with true/false, multiple choice, fill in the blank, or multiple response questions. This will be very helpful in the future when I am writing test.

Graphics Tools

Lucidchart Diagrams is an add on to google docs that allow the user to create a selection of charts and diagrams. "The skills involved in reading, interpreting, and producing graphs and charts are useful both to students in school and adults in the workplace" (Roblyre, 2016, 157). By teaching my students how to use charts and diagrams I will be giving them skills that they will be able to use in their future career.

This app is GoldieBlox and the Movie Machine by GoldieBlox where students can make short 11 slide movies. I can use this in the class room to help reinforce ideas by having my students create movies about the content that they are learning.

This Google Sheets add on is called Schedule Generator it is a very helpful tool that as an online planner. Being online gives this schedule the benefit of being able to hold a lot more details of the tasks than a normal planner would be able to hold.

This mobile app is called Teacher's Assistant: Classroom Management Notes it is an  organizational tool for teachers. It allows teachers to have a personal behavior chart for all of the students, a check list on the correcting actions made by the teacher, and parent contact information for each student.

Onelook Thesaurus is a google doc add on that gives the writer word suggestions that can be used to help give the writing more depth and word variety. This a very useful tool that both my students and I can use to learn new words and help us advance our writing.

https://www.google.com/earth/

Google Earth is a website set up to allow people to virtually roam the earth, learn facts about places, and take virtual tours of different lands. Instead of learning about places in a textbook my students will be able to search the whole world for them then learn about the place by taking a tour.

Module 2 Digital Citizenship

Digital Citizenship

Search Engines

The Internet is a constantly growing resource of knowledge. “Before the Internet, it was difficult to locate specific resources or items of information" (Roblyer, 2016, p.182). However, without search engines, it would be very difficult to locate this information. It is important for everyone to be able to efficiently navigate through search engines to that they can effectively learn from the knowledge the internet offers us. As teachers, it is our responsibility to ensure that our students know how to efficiently access the information that they need.

Website Evaluation Video

This video helps set simple guidelines on how to effectively tell if a website is reliable."The Internet’s vast information storehouse, unfortunately, contains some information that is incomplete, misleading, inaccurate, and/or out of date" (Roblyer, 2016, p.199). This video gives four factors to look at when reviewing a website: authority, accuracy, currency, and objectivity. Teaching these factors to my students will help them become aware of the differences between reliable and unreliable sources.

Favorite Professional Websites

This website is very helpful because it contains lessons and activities created by other teachers as well as tips and advice from experienced teachers.

I found Edsitement useful because it is a free reliable website developed by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the National Trust for the Humanities.  It offers lesson plans for all grade levels as well as videos, interactive maps and photos for a wide range of humanities topics.

 Online Safety & Security

Something that stuck with me when looking at the safety section of the text was the fact that people could learn information about students through the teacher using cookies. "The purpose of cookies is to provide the server with information that can help personalize Web activity to your needs, but cookies also may track behavior on the Internet in ways that violate privacy"  (Roblyer, 2016, p.175). While I am aware that cookies can be a form of privacy invasion I never really considered the fact that through cookies people can learn about the people surrounding you and not just yourself.

About Me

HI,
My name is Samantha Lasagna and I am an Elementary Education Major at the University of Montevallo.  As a young student with ADHD, I faced some challenges.  However, my elementary teachers worked with my mother to make sure I was given every opportunity to succeed in school.  They didn’t view me as a child with a learning disability – they viewed me as a normal child who had a different way of learning!  Because of them, I not only was successful in school, I enjoyed it!  Now, my goal is to become a teacher who makes learning interesting to all students by giving them an opportunity to utilize all of their senses during the learning process and the making the information relatable to them.
